Inspired by daffodils

Continuum

In this empty place
there is peace

the sense of time gone by

Amid bare trees, their limbs upraised
to the spring blue sky,

submerged in greening grass
there are mossy rocks
tumbled long ago

--foundation walls, supporting nothing now

walls and roof long returned to earth

Almost by the trees

that row of tiny brilliant suns

was planted there by long-forgotten hands

small clumps ease nearer to the patient humble stones

Its almost quiet now
you only hear the wind
scraping branches
soughing through the grass

In this empty place
the lengths of time -- then and now --

lay side-by-side

What once was, will it be again?

There is no agreement

but gently

the daffodils nod.
