I enjoyed talking with them because they were so different from many there. I had a blast with the Nuns of Perpetual Sin and Dykes on Bikes. I actually got scooped up by one and rode on her hog in the Dyke Parade in DuPont Circle! LOL! I even got to speak to some people who were at Stonewall! I wish I had recorded the experience better. I have some pics, but not many and, well, I was young and pretty so....I was all about the protest and having "fun"
LOL!
I have read "Rebels, Rubyfruit, and Rhinestones" by James Sears. I had to as he was my advisor for an independent study while I was in Grad School. I helped research parts of "Growing Up Gay in the South". It was a pain in the ass! This was way before an active internet and I made a ton of calls to libraries all over the South. I think I still have a copy of "The Myrtle Beach Bitch" which was a gay newspaper back in the day.
I am glad you were able to know him. Being associated with people who are a part of Queer History is important.
Again, sorry for your loss and the loss to our collective!
