Yesterday afternoon on a lakeside trail: kinglets, geese and a feline greeter [View all]

Grubb Lake in Lancaster County, PA, is a former iron ore quarry that closed in 1907 and eventually filled with water. Some historical background is in the final photo of this series.

Canada geese

Golden-crowned kinglets are tiny and these two were difficult to photograph as they flitted about in the tree tops.

During my many years of walking trails near residential areas I've often encountered friendly cats, which I see as emissaries of the trail. This kitty greeted me near a trailside bench. When I sat down she immediately jumped on my lap and made herself at home. She was healthy, well groomed and wore two collars; I assume she lives at one of the nearby houses.
