(95,572 posts)59. Jello. I mean, my Mom made some tasty dishes with a Jello base, but it went out of fashion decades ago...
The main one that showed up at TG was shredded raw carrots plus raisins in orange Jello. You could add walnuts to it as well. Its actually a nice combo of flavors and textures, and easy to make.
Her other one was something she called Funeral Salad that showed up at some point after I left home. From the name I deduced that it was something she felt was fancy enough to take along to an occasion like a funeral. I was given the recipe but it always looked like too much in every sense: Raspberry Jello, cranberries, and cant remember the rest except there was a thick layer of cream cheese, probably with chopped walnuts.

Oh, my goodness! 😄 I've never seen fresh ones! I could see that being annoying!

Collard Greens. Grew up on a Wisconsin farm, not in the south, but we used to love these!

Google vinegar pepper sauce and you'll get lots of options to order some. I also like it on cabbage.

I miss them! I grew up in the south. They were frequently on our table just not at Thanksgiving.

Not a Thanksgiving dish, but my high school cafeteria used to put shredded carrots and canned peas...

Easy peasy. Just buy some frozen pearl onions and a can of cream of onion or celery soup. Dump in a casserole
