It's a very chill place for a tourist site in Mexico. It's such a massive place that it rarely seems crowded (except atop the Pyramid of the Sun, which can get busy especially if you've got a fear of heights like I do). It's really a very stunning place with new parts of the site uncovered nearly every year and spectacular murals in the museum that look as if they were painted yesterday, not 1800 years ago. It was the first major place I visited when I began my doctoral studies on Indigenous Mexican history and to me it was like being in Disney World would be for a kid. I was enchanted.
I'm heartbroken for the tourists who died or were injured; they, like millions of others, just wanted to see and learn. It's a shame some psychotic maniac couldn't have just offed himself instead of having to destroy others.
