In reply to the discussion: Musk's PAC launches $1 million TV ad buy touting Trump's first 6 weeks in office [View all]SpankMe
(3,660 posts)The DNC is not made of money. Elon is rich, and an asshole. After the election, donations to the DNC and Dems in general have retreated to some low, baseline level, while Musk can pay for almost anything with just the interest from a fraction of his fortune. Also, Democratic leaning PACs have either dissolved after the election, or they've gone into hibernation mode pending the run-up to the next election.
Although it's a hard sell, the DNC has to establish a robust base of year-round, monthly donors - almost like a subscription service - to establish the long term cash flow needed to do detailed research, engineer a distributed social media campaign with a unified and coordinated messaging, run adds in heritage media, and cause "good trouble" wherever they can.
What is really needed is a large, national opposition organization composed of the DNC, unions, liberal PACs, never-Trump conservative orgs, and individuals that would act almost like a trade organization.
I am still astounded at the lack of any firm response by Dems to the Trump train wreck. I hope something's going on behind the scenes and that we'll get information about more that we can do - some firm action that Dems on the ground can take - to start resisting.
