In the film, Paul Muni, the gangster in the title role, sees his first Tommy Gun in action. Immediately he sees its strategic value.

“Lookit, Johnny, you can carry it around like a baby!”

So, Scarface gets his mitts on one and takes over his gang, followed by his community’s Prohibition Era liquor monopoly. In the process, three children playing on the sidewalk are shot. Then the concerned citizens petition the police commissioner to do something about it. Made me eyes water.

In those days (1932) We the People weren’t confused as to what was possible, because that’s what they did. Today, we can only say, “Only in the movies…”

If you get a chance to see it, I believe you would appreciate its parallels.
