Cristiano Ronaldo (2026): Just ahead of the World Cup, FIFA commuted a three-match suspension he received for an incident in a World Cup qualifier, putting him on a probation period and allowing him to play in the World Cup group stage .

Ronaldinho (2002): After receiving a straight red card against England in the quarterfinals, his suspension was limited to just one match rather than a multi-match ban, allowing him to return for the 2002 World Cup Final .
