(35,019 posts)The DNC needs to come together on this one.
The TDP's platform was pretty neutral on this until they singled out AIPAC. (As if they were the only "foreign interest" PAC) The Armenian-Americans have their own PAC and it advocates for Armenia. It just doesn't have as much power and sway and the US doesn't provide tons of arms to Armenia. I'm sure the Turkish-Americans have their own PAC and I'm sure it advocates for continued US military investment in Turkey. Azerbaijan has their own caucus and PAC. It heavily promotes energy investment in Azerbaijan. Henry Cuellar, anyone?
But the TDP isn't the DNC.
I know AIPAC has a ton of $$$$$ and influence. But it is what it is. And I believe their donors are required to be US citizens. The Armenian National Committee does quite well for PAC, which represents about 500,000 Americans. They're very organized and know how to communicate with their base and with congress.
For the most part the platform approved at our convention was as neutral as possible. It also pointed out genocides in Africa etc.
