4. I often wish McCain had won the nomination in 2000 over W.

Yesterday

He would have won the general election, of that I'm sure, and there is no hole on this planet where McCain wouldn't have tracked Osama bin Laden down in weeks. No invasion of Afghanistan or Iraq, the country still running balanced budgets, and absolutely no Donald Trump in the White House ... because it's likely Barack Obama wouldn't have run for President until 2016, or 2020.

No botched federal response to hurricane Katrina ... I could go on. John McCain was wrong about a great many things (he was a Republican, after all) but he was a man with class and still as sharp as a razor in 2000.
