Biden should have run in 2016, though I know his stated reasons for not running and this is not to criticize. He was the heir apparent, Obama's VP.

Trump would not be on a vengeance tour. So retribution would be harder to sell.

Would Trump have run for a 3rd term? No, I don't think so. It would have been expected he retire. But we'd be worse off. Biden did accomplish some things, if only to remind us of normality and strengthen our resolve. The left, and Democrats, are stronger for it. The GOP is faltering and elects narrow majorities that barely function. That says something.
