(4,051 posts)These kinds of attitudes and statements leak over to others who are not the target, and they form opinions based on who the messenger is and how it was delivered.
The family, friends, community members see that condemnation and they take it to heart as an attack on them and theirs. They know their friend and neighbor as a decent person who helps when they need help, most likely. So they resent the attack and the person who did the attacking and reject the message. As we would in a reverse situation. Thats human.
Plus, they broaden their view of who was doing the attacking to all of us. Thats why I believe its divisive and harmful. It hardens enmity, often creating it where none existed before. It deepen our divisions and it feeds stereotypes each side has about blue state liberals as well as conservatives. Exactly as Russia wants.
