In other words, the worst of it isn't just the billionaire "libertarian" (read fascist) backers like Eloon and Thiel but the religious right nutjobs who want to destroy the entire country because of the completely false belief, whether its leaders actually subscribe to it or not, that bringing about a theocratic government on Earth will help facilitate Christ's second coming. It is a complete misreading of the Bible, but millions of people actually believe in the bullshit promise we need to return to "simpler times" when men were men and women (and minorities) knew their "place."
