In Trump's first term, he send a bomber to crater runways at a Syrian airstrip after chemical gas was used. He then had a victory round claiming to the media that Obama lost influence because he opted not to bomb Syria after they "crossed his red line".

In reality, the runways were easily fixed within a week or two. As to Obama, the final action of his team was that Kerry and Lavrov negotiated the removal and destruction of Assad's large stockpile of chemical weapons. Which had the larger effect? Yet the media STILL spoke of how this diminished Obama's strength.
