The reports I heard on MSNBC claimed Jack Smith "said" he knew why Trump took the documents and that he had proof. They didn't say he made a public statement. I never said he made a public statement. I don't care if he made the statement in public, only that journalists with a reputation for truth and checking their sources reported it.
The filiings from Jack Smith's office--signed by Jack Smith--do represent Jack Smith. There are no rogues stating things that Smith doesn't stand behind in his filings. Smith doesn't make a lot of public statements, he wouldn't do something that could threaten his case. He usually makes his points in legal filings and in the courtroom. So it's possible when MSNBC claimed Smith "said" these things, they meant he "said" them in a legal document.
You were originally concerned as to whether he really had proof. That is a point that matters.
I don't think anyone but you cares about the distinction you are now making.
