My sister and I used to talk of getting a large piece of land, we called it a compound. Family would all have a plot, and like-minded people we could find. Much as most of you describe, communal areas, shared work and expenses.
It would be wonderful, or at least start out that way. But laws can change, people come along that want to run everything their way, and in the end it wouldn't work very long. I do believe humans are better served to live in small clans, rather than the overpopulated mess we have now. I believe things would be better if the women and elderly were in charge.
I wish we had enough native blood to pull the land together as a tribal nation, but Trump would ruin even that. We're too mixed to get any single recognition, too.
I'm grateful that I own my land and my worn-out trailer. It's not much, the taxes are still pretty low, all the utilities we really need is electricity. If I can, I'm going to try to get some solar going, to at least power the well pump and maybe some heat source. Always wanted to be fully off the grid, but even with tax breaks and such, we're just too poor to afford it.
