Four weeks after Adolf Hitler took power, a fire was set at the German parliament (Reichstag). Hitler blamed it on the Communists and a decree was issued that suspended civil liberties.

That's basic history which most people know, but an interesting wager for the betting sites would be how long after taking office will Trump attempt to declare martial law. Like with Hitler, I think it could come pretty quickly. Unlike his first term, where he started out somewhat trying to maintain the pretense of being a normal president, everything indicates that he is going to be swinging for the fences of authoritarianism. Immigration seems like the most likely candidate now, but he'll use anything that he thinks will work.

I pray that something like this will backfire on him and he'll have to walk it back, but I don't have much faith in the country and the institutions that he will be staffing with sycophants.
