to send people back to the moon... or to Mars...
robots, sure. send 100s...

people require a lot of support systems, and provide little to no functional advantage.

robots can endure long flights, can operate independently, and gather more scientific data than people.

I say this as a former NASA scientist with 10 years at the agency.. and one dead co-worker from the Columbia shuttle disaster.
