Snack, candy sales on rise in states with legalized marijuana, study says [View all]

Sales of snacks and candy are on the rise in states that have legalized recreational marijuana, according to a new study.

The study from Nielsen compared growth of sales of candy and snacks in states that have and have not legalized marijuana.

According to Nielsen, the sales of salty and sweet snacks have increased over the past year, “with salty snacks reaching sales of $29.9 billion and sweet snacks hitting sales of $6.5 billion.”

The study says that the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of confectionary sales over the past four years is two percent in states with legalized marijuana compared to 1.3 percent in non-legal states.
