there are people like me, who migrated from the north into Appalachia in the early 1970s when the Sunbelt was a growing region, and had and raised our children there. Our kids are decidedly not Yankees, but they're not "hillbillies" either, although they've absorbed a lot of Appalachian culture. And their kids are something else entirely...."new" Appalachians of some kind, a mix of heaven only knows what. In the case of mine, Appalachian Black, former Yankee white, Nuyorican, but all second or third generation Appalachian now.
