I was in a retrospective earlier this evening (and it's only 7:55 as I write this) when I saw Emil "The Cat" Francis died. No he wasn't in porn, you filthy minded voyeurs. He was GM and coach of the NY Rangers hockey team in the 60s and 70s. I saw a few games at the Garden back then, it was a big event when there weren't so many teams, the personalities were known to most fans, and the game was played in cold weather.

If anyone had told me about the world we have today, I would groan, and I do groan, and not from the humping and thumping of loins on the silver screen. We have more freedom but are less free, more technology but are time-slaves to it. There's plenty of flesh but prudes still own morality, financial exploitation runs our lives but few realize it.

I suppose it's me. I'm this high brow geek that has probably been to a movie theater (no, not that kind of movie theater you pervert) less than 40 times. 95% of Hollywood's output to me is mindless trash with the same old plots. The great films were made from about 1962 to 1987, and that period surely ended when computer graphics became more important than actors, acting, directors, and a moral purpose behind a film, even if it was immorality as social commentary. Catering to teens was never a viable political plan, but they executed it perfectly to make brainless adults.

I never saw the Green Door, and never will for sure. If I tried to get a copy it would probably get intercepted by the local USPS office which would create a scandal. So appreciate the reporting on it.
