That scene resonated with me for a long time and sent me ruminating for days on the brutality of necessity and people’s ability to rationalize the most horrible things. What does it mean to be charitable? What is the value of art to men who are barely subsisting? Who wants to hear Shakespeare when you can watch a chicken do math?!

Every episode is so unique and yet the whole thing is so cohesive.
