and then edited, sometimes called telescoping, to remove most of the music, and leave mostly what the jock said — often called a set. These edited tapes are sent to other stations, with a resume, to get a job. Sometimes program directors also review them with a jock in a session where the performance is critiqued.

Sometimes fans just let a tape run and capture a whole show complete with music and commercials. Both types of recordings were used for the KHJ bits in the movie. They recordings in the movie were actual broadcasts, mostly from 1969, with some pieces from other years, but close in time to 1969. KHJ was the dominant Top 40 station in LA in the mid to late 60s and into the 70s.
