Letter to my State Rep who is on record as supporting "Constitutional Carry" which means [View all]

anyone who owns a gun can carry it concealed or openly without a license, training or background check.

Dear Representative Tenderholt,

I am a FFL holder for Curio and Relic firearms. Guns do not scare me. People feeling the need to carry guns in public places scare me. No one can know the state of mind a person with a gun is in. Was s/he just fired and here to take revenge? Does s/he think the cashier in my grocery store is having an affair with their spouse? Are they simply mentally deficient? Their state of mind will only be known if/when bloodshed occurs.

However if it is illegal to carry a firearm and someone chooses to do so anyway it is clear that they are violating the law and can be dealt with by law enforcement who are trained and equipped for such contingencies.

I know you believe there is a 'right' to carry guns but please consider what I've said here when thinking about legislation. Also consider the fact that one Open Carry Tarrant County member shot and killed her husband and step daughter before turning herself in to a mental hospital. Also keep in mind the behavior of Open Carry Tarrant County at the state capitol, behavior that resulted in panic buttons installed in some offices and a DPS escort for Rep Poncho Nevarez due to threats to his life.

Please don't be the guy who says, 'Sorry, your dead kid doesn't trump my second amendment rights."
