2. Fear sells a LOT of things

including the rights we tend to toss away to have "safety"

fear sells lots more than guns. go to an airport and try to get on a plane with too much hand lotion in your carry-on. try to drive around near the southern border of the US. hell try to cross into the US and see how "safe" you feel at a checkpoint.

fear sells all kinds of garbage you may or may not need. do you use antibacterial soap? fear of germs sells a hell of a lot of that kind of shit. in fact the fear of social ostracism is what almost ALL advertizing is about. fear that you won't smell right, measure up to the other consumers, have the right shoes, sunglasses, beer, car, electronic gadget etc etc etc.

of course fear sells a lot of guns. it is a prime motivator for all kinds of behaviors.
