TUSCUMBIA – A Colbert County grand jury has indicted a husband and wife for manslaughter in the July accidental shooting of a 2-year-old boy who was visiting their home, officials said.

According to emergency officials, Colbert 911 was notified of the shooting at 4:58 p.m. Reports indicate the child was inside the house, found a loaded pistol and the gun went off after he picked it up.
====
Colbert County District Attorney Bryce Graham Jr., said the indictment is not about the Second Amendment or gun ownership, but “recklessness and irresponsibility.”

“I’m a gun owner; we are privileged to live in a country where you can own a gun,” Graham said. “But this is about being responsible with that gun.

“There is a tremendous responsibility (to owning a gun), and this is about irresponsibility that cost a child his life, not whether they have a right to own a gun or not.

About effin' time. These "law abiding citizens" need to be held accountable for their negligence. When it comes to deadly weapons, which are purchased and kept handy because they are lethal there are NO accidents.

The bullshit about 'punished enough' and 'it couldn't have been prevented' or 'it's an accident' doesn't fly with me.

That said you have to read the statements made by the defense attorney. Just more gun fetish crap about privacy, self defense and rights.
