(34,838 posts)also exists on the socialist/communist forums. It is the one argument I have with them repeatedly and I'm not backing down.
They feel that economics trumps all else and changing the economic system has to be the primary focus. This comes directly from Marx (white male circa 1800s).
But they are white males and even if they've lived in poverty they have not walked in our shoes - they really don't know the experience of being a poor black women growing up in these states. It is not the same experience for all of us in poverty. There are so many small ways in which discrimination occurs and makes the experience of growing up in capitalism even worse for minorities. As a white female with a white-sounding name I could at least get in the door for interviews etc. despite my poor, rural white background while "Lakisha" might not even get that far.
We have to keep working on ALL of it. We don't just focus on economics and ignore all the other slurs or we backtrack in that area as well.
