(55,033 posts)No difference whatsoever. Anyone who thinks only men they don't like or admire should be held to legal account for their actions is someone who has no respect for the law, women, or other rape victims. Whether protecting football players or Assange, their goal is the same: to protect an accused rapist from being held accountable because they consider him more important than the lowly women who reported their assaults. Just because their justifications for the type of person they defend differs means nothing. They are the same type of people with the same values: They see the man they protect as intrinsically more worthy than his victims, whose basic human rights they refuse to respect. Rape apology is rape apology, regardless of whom it is defense of. Victim shaming is victim shaming, regardless of whom the targets are. They put themselves above the courts because they think they know the accused rapist is innocent, but in reality they don't really care. Their steadfast refusal to look at the legal evidence and determination to distort it makes clear how little they value the lives of the women involved.
