These gas prices are almost as bad as the job market: Record gas price hike in could impact summer travel plans in NC [View all]

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Gas prices nationwide have hit the highest price in four years, and it’s starting to have a big impact on people in eastern North Carolina.

According to Patrick De Haan, a GasBuddy Petroleum Analyst, prices are up $1.16 over the last four weeks, a record for the largest four-week increase.

While it is unknown if prices will continue to increase due to war developments, the quickly approaching summer season means more people will be traveling, especially to the North Carolina coast.

“I don’t expect Americans are going to be real happy with gas prices this high they persist into the summer,” De Haan said. “North Carolina could hit $4, and it’s possible that if there is no plan to reopen the strait, gas prices could get close to $5 a gallon.”
