...is there anyone who *doesn't* expect some Reichstag Fire-type incident, which will give him the excuse he needs to turn the screws? I don't see anyone doing anything but some futile squealing, when that happens. Certainly not the Dem leadership. I think it will be a very open question if we even have a free election in 2020--more like one of those 99.9% referendums dictators love so much. Our democratic institutions are much weaker than most people think, I am very much afraid...and I don't have the slightest goddam notion of what to do about it...
