A survey reported that between 15% and 20% supported the terrorists.
20% of 1.6 billion is 320 million. More terrorist supporters than there are people in the United States.

The majority of Muslims are peaceful, but how relevant is the silent majority if you have a large enough active minority?

(I may get banned as a racist for posting an obvious question, but oh well. I calls 'em like I sees 'em. And I see being a Muslim as a choice of belief system, not a race, so it's not racism to point out that a particular belief system is just plain evil.)
