By the Islamic calendar. Which might make the "shocked and offended" more understandable. No, not really, just joking...

The current Islamic year is 1436 AH. In the Gregorian calendar, 1436 AH runs from approximately 24 October 2014 (evening) to 13 October 2015 (evening).

When I lived in Saudi Arabia, there was a rumor about a British Airways pilot who got perma-banned from the whole country. Because he made this after-flight announcement: "Ladies and gentlemen, we have just landed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Please set your watches to the 14th century."

I always hoped that story was true.
