Have you looked at the Venus of Willendorf, a sculpture of a woman from the same period, 11,000 years ago or thereabouts? When you do, take note of the extraordinary skill of the artist carving here. Whoever did it knew anatomy, woman's anatomy very well, plus was able to uncover the women in the stone, even to details of the hair. So, in many ways, when I see the pictures of the megalith in Malta, I wonder why anyone would think that, back then, lives were "nasty, brutish and short" (Hobbes), and that nothing sophisticated could have been made then.
