It is known that the precursor to LSD and some related compounds, some of which are hallucingenic, others of which are abortifacients, occur on rye as a fungus.

This has been problematic.

It is easy to imagine this technology being exploited for weapons purposes, for instance, mixing toxin producing varieties of wheat into wheat fields.

There may be many benefits to the technology but we should be aware that all technologies are subject to abuse.
