Patriots fan here,
I had not understood why the Patriots had signed Tebow until my son suggested to me, that they signed him to help the defense prepare to defend against the "read option offense" which many teams are using effectively in recent years.
Beyond that I don't see much value in keeping him around, especially when it comes to cutting a valuable backup at another position such as Lagarette Blount, or an O-line backup.
