3. This is hard to believe, but I think St. Louis was the westernmost city

in baseball back then, with the Cards and Browns (Orioles).

The Rangers were still in DC, the As in Philly, and the Dodgers & Giants in the NYC metro area. All the other western teams of today were expanded. Even the Braves were still in Boston. Cincy and Pittsburgh were at the center of the baseball world.

It makes sense that flying was an efficient option. The players were less tired and could play better baseball.
