To bring your own experiences to a story brings such depth and emotion, it has to greatly enrich your book.

You might want to check out Writer's Digest online...
http://www.writersdigest.com ... lots of great info. They have articles about getting agents, etc. They do try to sell you on their workshops and stuff...way too much money for me but great articles. Also, a blog I love The Bookshelf Muse is a lot of fun and their emotion thesaurus is wonderful.
