It is so formulaic that it checks all the boxes for a pop song. The bouncy melody gets stuck in the mind - inextricably, I imagine. The beat implies energy and vitality. Advertising weasels exploit our intimate familiarity with this little ditty. When you’ve heard something 20,000 times, it’s kinda hard to ignore when you hear it in an unexpected or random setting.

I’m hardly an expert in music, psychology, or marketing strategy, so my assessment means bupkis. As it’s said about art, I know what I like, and I don’t like Funkytown on many levels. Millions within my cohort may have succumbed to its ‘charms’, but even then I perceived it as pop schlock.
