Use of "sprang up." [View all]

Should I use the verb "arose" or the verb phrase "came into being" instead?

Here is my sentence:

"The cult of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music, sprang up in Rome around the time of the founding the Church."

Is "originated" better?
