who uses such devices as letters in envelopes to propel his stories (his Griffin and Sabine series, for example.) His artwork has a steampunk quality, depending on your interpretation and he has been on NPR. The Griffin and Sabine series dates to the late 1990's - early 2000's but he might have a newer book to promote (he's written over 20.) I love his books, but yes, they're very tactile and wouldn't translate to digital well at all.
