The off-stage characters that never get into the book - [View all]

I was reading one of James Lee Burke's books about Dave Robicheaux and I was wondering what it might be like to live next door to him. Figure every other year or so some creep shows up and engages in a shoot-out or tries to burn down his house. I mean, do you put big signs on the lawn saying "Not this house, go next door?" What if you're in a restaurant and Dave and Clete Purcell walk in. Do you ask for the check and a doggy bag? What if you're fishing and Dave drives up? Would you look around hoping you haven't hooked a dead body?

Can you name another fictional character you really, really wouldn't want to live near in real life?
