My now long gone grandfather who had graduated from Purdue by the time he was
taken in the service for WW I was given a choice got to north atlantic/europe or go
to Puerto Rico which they were using for a base to ship a lot of supplies to Europe
and then the war from. (he was very smart) But he was told that he would never
be an officer to which he said that he fine with that. If he had gone to Europe there
was good chance that my late dad would never had been born.
