1. I can't tell you how angry it makes me that congress's pay is exempt

They are federal employees - they should take a 20% pay cut between now and the end of September just like the rest of the federal employees. Better yet, they shouldn't get paid at all because they aren't doing anything. The dems are trying to push through jobs creating bills and gun laws and the repubs are putting forth job creating legislation on abortions, gay marriage bans and mandating creationism be taught in public school

Holding $174,000 from each member of the house and senate would save the country over $93mil in tax dollars. That sounds like a far better cut to govt spending than from the regular people who work for the govt.
