1. It's all depended on what Trump thinks is the best case scenario for his reelection.

That's why he denied it was serious for so long. It had to be. Something like this just couldn't ruin his presidency. It's not fair. Plus it might literally be a matter of life and death for Trump, some of his family and collaborators. Jared would not do well behind bars.

The best play was to downplay it to avoid tanking the markets and keep all their fortunes intact. Then when it just went away or flowed on through with little impact, Trump would be in the best possible position.

Now Trump knows his only chance is to get things running again and see the economy start to recover. The only way that can happen in time is to just open things back up and hope it works. He feels like he has nothing to lose.
