Have you ever looked into a writer going by the name 'Saki'? You might enjoy the tale of Tobermory:

His real name was Hector Hugh Monro, and his work was wickedly funny, particularly stories featuring a young fellow Clovis as a central character. He was an officer in the Great War, and is said one night to have been saying 'Put out that bloody cigarette' when he was shot through the head.
