The town and police department had not yet filed their response in court to the lawsuit. But Stern, the lawyer representing Ramapo, said the the town will argue Groesbeck qualified to have a gun under a federal law that entitles former law enforcement officers to possess their service weapons, and exempts them from registering for a pistol permit.
