(849 posts)Should we have laws for parents who leave booze/dope in accessible areas leaving their kids alone and
the car keys accessible?
Or just leave laws already on the books in place covering child endangerment and enforcing them accordingly ?
At some point adding new laws to do the same as old laws becomes ridiculous.
I don't know if you can legislate bad parenting, leaving a loaded weapon and kids alone with
access just screams incompetent parenting.
Same for the knife block in an open area, cleaning supplies in reach, prescriptions in the open, access to the swimming pool.
There's just no easy answer for parents lacking common sense to leave ANY dangerous article in
access to children unsupervised. My sibling stuck a fork tine in a 110 socket at 2yrs old, but the
parents didn't hide the silverware after that.
There's no problem punishing bad parents for lack of common sense. In my parts if your child isn't in an approved car seat you'll not only get a unsecured child citation, but can also be arrested for child abuse/endangerment, have the car towed and kids put in the child welfare facility.
