4. Exactly. They don't want to decrease "gun violence" at all.

While some gun control supporters may want to, national gun control organizations thrive off of the violence. It's sick and demented. But they see violence as fuel for their effort to ban and confiscate guns. Case in point, the 2007 bipartisan NICS expansion (signed into law). The NRA and Brady Campaign supported the measure that Carolyn McCarthy co-sponsored. VPC, CSGV, and other extremist gun control organizations disliked the effort and fought it. Why? It contained rights restoration procedures for people who can prove they've recovered from their bout with mental illness. Gun controllers were willing to give up on millions of new NICS records over a clause giving people access to a rights restoration process. Think about how petty that is.
