City's Top Cop Demands Changes In Maryland Gun Laws [View all]

"The carrying, transportation or wearing of an illegal firearm in our state is still a misdemeanor," he said.

Davis says he plans to lobby state lawmakers to bump that crime up to a felony.

Will controllers support this proposal? I think not. In 2013, pro-gun groups lobbied the Maryland state legislature to increase the penalties associated with prohibited persons in possession of firearms. Shockingly, the controllers stripped those proposed provisions from the 2013 gun law enhancements to make room for a ban on folding stocks and the usual cosmetic stuff. The controller thinking was that they didn't have an interest in punishing actual criminals. Controllers would rather focus their efforts on law abiding gun owners.
