2. A lot of gun rights supporters are not fans of open carry for a number of reasons,

and such polling is entirely uncontroversial.

The real issues is when gun controllers try to ban both open AND concealed carry, whether explicitly or through onerous and arbitrary "may issue" schemes.

If you want to nationally prohibition on open carry, with reasonable exceptions for hunting, sport and similar activities, I imagine a great many gun rights supporters would be willing to compromise if offered nation mandatory "shall issue" concealed carry firearm permits, including state and local preemption and reciprocity.
